Arrest Made in Friday Shooting

DENTON, TX, July 27, 2021 – The Denton Police Department has arrested 35-year-old Early Brown in connection to a targeted shooting that injured one person on Friday afternoon.


Officers were dispatched at 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 23 after a caller reported hearing multiple gunshots in the 3500 block of Briercliff Drive. While officers were en route, dispatchers were notified that a man with apparent gunshot wounds had arrived at a local hospital. He was in stable condition as of Friday evening.


On Briercliff Drive, officers located shell casings in the street and identified a second male victim. Through interviews, officers were able to determine that the suspect, who was related to the second victim, was in his vehicle when he fired shots at the victims in a parked vehicle. The second victim was not injured in the shooting.


Detectives obtained two arrest warrants for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. On Monday evening, U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force officers from Denton PD, Denton County Sheriff’s Office, and Flower Mound PD located Brown in the 400 block of N. Masch Branch Road. Task force officers and the Denton PD SWAT team arrested him without incident.


Brown is currently in the City of Denton Jail on two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He is being held on a total $200,000 bond, with a $100,000 bond set for each charge.
