Officers Investigating Three Unrelated Shootings

Update: One of the victims from the Aug. 4 shooting has been pronounced deceased.


DENTON, TX, Aug. 4, 2020 – After three shootings in the past week, Denton PD understands community concerns regarding safety. All three shootings are unrelated and are being thoroughly investigated. Information on each case is available below:

  • On July 28, at approximately 7:19 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of S. Loop 288 in reference to a person with a gun call. It was determined that known acquaintances were involved in a verbal argument regarding a vehicle exchange. The altercation turned physical, and one of the parties fired a gun at the other. There were no reported injuries.

  • On Aug. 1, at approximately 7:11 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of South Loop 288. The victim in this case did not wish to speak to officers, so the information surrounding this incident is limited.

  • On Aug. 4, at approximately 2:02 p.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 300 block of Mack Drive. Officers located one gunshot victim at the scene and were notified of another who was at a local hospital. It is still unclear what led to this shooting.
