The CARES Act Economic Impact Payment Plan In A Nutshell

On March 27, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) was signed into law to assist Americans during the current pandemic. In short, the plan sets aside $250 billion for tax rebates and the same amount for unemployment. This allowed the federal government to set up additional assistance for unemployment and the Economic Impact Payment (EIP) plan.

Some individuals began receiving their EIP last week, and while payments are still processing for others, physical checks have not been mailed yet. To check your status, visit www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment. For more information on the payments see the graphic below.
