Yard of the Month Returns!
With some exciting changes
Previously, we had a Yard of the Month for each council district, but that just didn't feel right. So, Keep Denton Beautiful updated the Yard of the Month program to feature a different type of yard each month. This way we can feature all the different types of yards out there – container gardening, lawns, pollinators – we’ve got it covered!
Here’s the monthly breakdown:
April: Native Plants
May: Pollinator Gardens
June: Lawns
July: Container gardens/raised beds
Aug.: Xeriscape*
Sept.: Natural Aesthetic
Oct.: Urban Forestry
Nov.: Backyards
* A xeriscape is a landscape that requires little or no irrigation or other maintenance.
We rely on public nominations. If there is a yard in your neighborhood or your yard is top-notch, send us the address. Our volunteer judges will survey yards monthly to determine the winning yard. So, if you want to nominate a yard for it's Urban Forestry, you can do that now. But it will not be judged until October. :) We’ll then take a deep dive to learn more about plant species and proper care and will write up a blog on the winning yards.
